High Capability Computing and Modeling Group (IL 08100)

This posting is for a research position involving the modeling of thermoelectric properties of nano-patterned materials and electronic states in quantum computing gate structures. Specific tasks will include the evaluation of the electron-phonon coupling in semiconductor materials and its effect on electronic and thermal transport, and on the decoherence of electronic states confined in quantum dots. Dr. Paul von Allmen, Technical Group Supervisor in the JPL Modeling and Data Management Systems Section, will serve as the JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will be guided by the JPL advisor to ensure that the research work will result in publications in the open literature.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or applied physics with a strong background in numerical modeling of materials. Experience in thermoelectric materials is highly desirable. The appointment is contingent upon evidence of completion of a Ph.D.

Please send a letter describing your research interests, a curriculum vitae, and a list of three references (with telephone numbers, postal, and e-mail addresses) to:
