Planetary Science and Life Detection Section (IL 07118b)

This posting is for a postdoctoral research position in the Planetary Science and Life Detection Section.

The research will involve acquisition and analysis of atmospheric spectra and brightness temperatures using three experiments: (1) the Viking Infrared Thermal Mappers, (2) the Mars Global Surveyor Thermal Emission Spectrometer, and (3) the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Mars Climate Sounder. The research is aimed at the measurement and interannual comparison of column abundances of water vapor and for preparation for observations to be made by NASA's Phoenix Lander. Dr. Leslie Tamppari, Phoenix Project Scientist in JPL's Planetary Science and Life Detection section will serve as JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will be guided by the JPL advisor to ensure that the research work will result in publications in the open literature.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in atmospheric or planetary science with a strong background in atmospheric studies. Experience in Mars atmospheric retrievals, modeling, and/or analysis is highly desired.

Please submit a letter describing your research interests, a CV, and the names of three references with their telephone numbers, postal and email addresses to:
