Planetary Science and Life Detection Section (IL 07115)

This posting is for a postdoctoral research position in the Planetary Science and Life Detection Section of JPL's Science Division.

The research will involve tectonic and other geophysical modeling of processes relevant to the outer planet satellites, notably Europa. Dr. Robert Pappalardo, principal scientist in JPL's Planetary Science and Life Detection Section, will serve as the postdoctoral advisor for this position. The appointee will be guided by the JPL advisor to ensure that the research work will result in publications in open literature.

Candidates should have a recent Ph.D. in geology, physics, or a related field with a strong background in geophysical research. Experience in tectonic modeling and/or research relevant to the outer planet satellites is highly desirable. The appointment is expected to begin in January 2008.
