The research will involve the design and construction of prototype Raman spectrometers and related probe technologies for the detection and identification of minerals and biomolecules.
This position will focus on the development of a UV Raman instrument and multi-wavelength source designed to scan for resonance Raman signatures from biogenic compounds present in Martian regolith.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, physics, optical science, or chemistry with some experience in fluorescence or Raman spectroscopy and/or spectrometer design.
Dr. James Lambert, manager of JPL’s Analytical Instruments Group, will serve as postdoctoral adviser to the successful candidates to ensure that their research will result in publications in the open literature.
