This is second in a series of three classes. [See Changes and Trends in Today's English Usage (1); and Techniques for Identifying and Correcting Mistakes in Written Communication (3).] Although each class can be taken independently, for optimal learning, we recommend taking all three, in order.
Spend much time on your writing?
This one-day program is designed for those whose job requires them to identify and correct errors in their writing or the writing of others.
Emphasis will be placed on specific writing assignments and on developing the participant's ability to use proofreading techniques and marks; identify common typographical and character errors; and find and correct grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. Additional emphasis is placed on the finer points of proofreading and editing- usage, capitalization, numbers, and spacing.
Topics:
- The principles of communication
- The principles of proofreading (the building blocks)
- The grammatical errors (two problem areas)
- The common puncuation errors (a review and a refresher)
- The spelling errors
- The finer points (usage, capitalization, numbers, spacing)
Note: All participants should have a basic understanding of current rules of grammar and punctuation.
Course Fee
While there is no fee for registration and class instruction, you will be asked to provide your PTA.
Cancellation Policy
Due to the limited class size, your PTA will be charged $100 if you cancel your registration without at least 72-hour advanced notice prior to the start of the series.
