Dependent Eligibility Certification Documents
The following is a list of documents you may provide to prove your dependent meets the eligibility requirements for the Caltech benefits program (which are described in the Benefits Handbook.)
If you do not have the required documentation, there are a variety of online resources that provide legal documents quickly and inexpensively.
Also, for marriage and birth documentation, you can write to the recorder's office in the county in which you were married or your child was born.

| Domestic partner | One of the following: |
| Newborn child | Copy of birth certificate (for a newborn, a hospital certificate is acceptable until the official birth certificate is available. |
Child - full-time student |
Copy of birth certificate and copy of approved school transcript/invoice |
| Child - disabled | Copy of birth certificate and copy of medical documentation of the disability or mental handicap |
| Stepchild | Copy of birth certificate |
| Child of a domestic partner | Copy of birth certificate or copy of legal document granting guardianship to the domestic partner |
| Adopted child | Copy of birth certificate and copy of legal adoption document |
| Foster child | Copy of legal document that grants foster care custody |
| Child - court ordered custody | Copy of court order or other legal documents granting custody |
| Child covered under a qualified medical child support order | Copy of QMCSO or other legal document requiring coverage |
| Child living with ex-spouse (when you are not the custodial parent and do not claim the child for tax purposes) | Copy of birth certificate |
